Student Health Coverage and Vaccination Policy

Health Coverage Requirement

Continuing students enrolled at least three-quarter time (see Registration Policy) are required to have health coverage year-round. Each student covered by private health insurance must report that coverage to the university (through My Financial Center) prior to the student’s first semester or term of classes and at the start of each academic year thereafter in which the student is enrolled at least three-quarter time.

Students who have not reported private insurance coverage to the university one week before the start of each qualifying academic year are automatically enrolled in BYU’s Student Health Plan (Plan). The Plan may be removed from a student’s record if private health insurance coverage is reported before the relevant add/drop deadline. Students may seek an exception to remove the Plan from a student’s record after the add/drop deadline by submitting a petition to the Plan’s enrollment petition committee. This exception is available to students only once during their academic career.

If the Plan is removed from the student’s record, the Plan will refund the premium paid for any semesters for which the Plan is removed. However, the Plan will not provide refunds for premiums paid more than one semester prior to the removal of the Plan from the student’s record.

Visit the Student Health Center website for more information.

Vaccination and Medical Testing Requirement

Each student must be vaccinated and tested for medical conditions as required by academic program accreditation, international travel, or placement requirements.
